Coach Biography
My name is Monica Cash. I started skating when I was seven years old with the International Falls Figure Skating Club. It was there that I fell in love with the glide of my blade on the ice and the feeling of flying through the air. As I passed my way through the badges, advanced freeskate and moves tests, I was given the opportunity to become a mentor. After seven years of mentorship, I was approved to become a full coach in 2009 for IFFSC.
I graduated from Falls High School and Rainy River Community College in the spring of 2010. That fall I started at Bemidji State University, pursuing a degree in elementary education with a middle school mathematics endorsement, psychology minor, and a coaching certificate. It was then that I started coaching for Bemidji Figure Skating Club. Through the years, I have had the opportunity to work with skaters from Park Rapids, Bagley, and Rainy River skating clubs. I enjoy working with skaters of all ages, but my favorites are the little “chickies” that are brand new to skating. They have a sparkle in their eyes that glimmer so bright every day that they come to skate.
However, as many hours as I spend at the skating rink, I do enjoy many activities away from the ice. I work at Bemidji Middle School as a paraprofessional. teach swimming lessons, lifeguard, rollerblade with our dog named Argo, travel with my husband, and spending time with my family. I got married in 2014 and, thus, gained 18 nieces and nephews. We love to have them stay with us and enjoy going to their extra curricular activities.
